Working Longer Discussions at Westminster

On the 10th of March Dilwyn Roberts-Young, the Deputy-general Secretary attended the latest in the series of meetings in which Westminster's Department of Education and the teacher unions considered the impact of working longer on teachers.

The discussion considered the impact on the physical, emotional and mental health of teachers. Amongst the considerations for limiting the impact on health were reducing timetables, smaller class sizes, working part time and undertaking activities such as marking, preparing schemes of work and mentoring. Of course, there would be implications to this including adapting to change and costs for the employer.

Research has been commissioned on the impact of working longer on teachers and we will be asking for your opinions in the near future.
