Rebecca Williams, UCAC's Policy Officer said "We're glad that the Welsh Government has responded promptly to the concerns regarding the marking of the GSCE English Language unit. UCAC feels that the most important message to emerge from this situation is the need move forward with the establishment of an exams regulator which is independent from Government as soon as possible.

 

"Having the Department for Education and Skills in charge of exams policy and regulation is untenable. It'll be crucial that the new Regulator when it is established has staff with the requisite level of expertise, and that a good working relationship with open communication is established with all relevant exam boards."
