Mencap Cymru
UCAC's Equality Department was pleased to welcome Laura Scorey, Fran Power and Charlie Phillips to our meeting last week. The three work for Mencap Cymru and they gavce us an overview of the their work with young people in south east Wales.
Charlie Phillips is an am ambassador who has gained a great deal from the support of Mencap Cymru and it was interesting to see how such projects were beneficial to schools and communities with the emphasis on inclusion and confidence building.
In our discussions there was a strong feeling that the pressures to reach literacy and numeracy targets was often to the detriment of the values needed to ensure that our pupils are treasted as valued members of our communities.
