UCAC attends a meeting of the Working Longer Review in Westminster

 

These regular meetings offer an opportunity for the government, employers and union officials  to consider the challenges facing teacher as they are expected to work until their late sixties. It is crucial that UCAC attends the meetings in order to ensure that the voice of teachers in Wales is heard as neither pay or conditions of service of teachers have not been devolved.

 

In last week's meeting there was a discussion on the CooperGibson research with schools in England on working beyond normal pension age but which raises a number of relevant matters for teachers in Wales. 

 

However, the main matter under consideration was the near completion of the Working Longer Review report which should be available in early September. Consideration of the report findings will be crucial in the future planning of the workforce ac in responding to the  demands on teachers as they work longer and until they are older.

 

Dilwyn Roberts-Young will report on the Working Longer Review in the next meeting of the National Council and the findings of the report will be cascaded to our members in the County Association meetings to be held in the Autumn Term.
