Welsh Government gives teachers a licence to pioneer
The Welsh Government has today announced the names of the Pioneer Schools that will help to shape our education system over the years to come.
As well as the emphasis on creating a brand new curriculum, the Minister has asked schools to make recommendations in two other related fields in view of the major changes coming down the line.
The two fields are: the professional training needs of school staff, and how to avoid excessive additional workload during the process of change.
Elaine Edwards, the General Secretary of UCAC education union said “The opportunity to create a truly Welsh curriculum that meets the needs of 21st century learners is very exciting. We’re pleased that the Minister has placed his trust in the profession to lead the way in developing our new curriculum.
“UCAC also welcomes the fact that the Minister has asked schools to look at training needs and how to avoid an unnecessary increase in workload as a side-effect of these ambitious changes.
“We hope that these work streams will combine to ensure a smooth and sensible process of implementation for one of the most important developments in our education system for decades.”
